APM moved to night event to meet public demand

24th September 2014 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

Members of the public are set to hear about local health improvements and challenges, at a time chosen by them, during the Annual Public Meeting of Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

We have listened to feedback from local patients and members of the public which showed their preferred time for the CCG to hold a public event was in the evening. Therefore the time and venue of the APM has changed to the evening, which means the CCG can showcase some fantastic achievements, as well as answer public questions on the future challenges that the CCG face.

GPs and managers from Leicester City CCG were originally scheduled to present the annual accounts, report and progress to members of the public at its Board meeting, during the daytime on Tuesday October 14 2014.

The board meeting will go ahead separately, as planned during the day* with the APM taking place in the evening on Tuesday October 14, 2014 at the new venue of College Court Conference Centre, Knighton Road, Leicester, LE2 3TQ. A health market and refreshments will be available in the Birch Room from 6pm until 7pm with the main APM taking place in the Oak Room from 7pm until 8pm.

Professor Azhar Farooqi, GP and Chair of Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We always listen to and take people’s feedback very seriously and we want to take time to talk to people properly and showcase the fantastic achievements we have made in our first year as a statutory body, as well as tell them in more detail what these achievements mean for them. As a result we decided a change of time and venue of the APM to meet public demand.

“We achieved a great deal during our first year as a CCG. We have been able to make real improvements to local health services and we have started to tackle some of the wider issues which lead to health inequalities in our city. In our first year we focussed on heart disease, lung disease, mental health, older people, primary care and urgent care. These areas will remain priorities going forward as we acknowledge there is still so much more hard work to be done.

“Leicester is not without its challenges. We face a growing and aging population, increasingly complex health needs and rising costs of medicines and services at a time when resources are likely to be considerably constrained. We also have some of the most deprived areas and some of the worst health of anywhere in the country. At the APM you will be able to find out about our five year strategy – known as Better Care Together, an important piece of work which will be vital in shaping our local health and social care services to ensure the meet the needs of patients for years to come.”

There will be an interactive health market between 6pm and 7pm in the Birch Room, where people will have the chance to speak to project managers from the CCG about the work they are doing and pick up some health tips along the way.
