Clinics open during half term for families to get Covid jab

30th May 2022 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups are advising families to take advantage of the half term break to make sure the whole family is up to date with their covid vaccinations.

Covid vaccine clinics in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are open during this week’s half term holiday, excluding the Jubilee bank holiday on Thursday and Friday, making it easy for families to get their covid jab.

Dr Caroline Trevithick, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Performance and Deputy Chief Executive of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: “The virus is still circulating and by getting vaccinated, people can help protect themselves and others. By getting the vaccine now, you’ll also be protected ahead of the summer holiday season too.

“Parents are advised to get their children aged 5 and over, vaccinated against Covid now – you do not need to wait to be invited for the jab. Our vaccinators have been provided with additional training and have a range of distraction techniques available to them to help support your child if they are anxious about having the jab.

“Across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland there are a number of walk-in sites for eligible people to get their vaccine, including the drive-thru centre and our mobile vaccine clinics which go into the heart of our communities as well as local special events and family festivals. Wherever you live, we are making it as easy as possible to get the covid vaccine.”

Details of latest walk-in sites (no appointment necessary) including opening times are available on the CCG website. There will be no clinics on the Jubilee bank holiday on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June, but they will be open for the rest of the week, including over the weekend of June 4 and 5.

The mobile vaccine clinics will be at the Riverside Festival in Bede Park this Saturday from 12 until 6pm and on Sunday from 12 until 5pm, as well as Loughborough market on Saturday between 10am and 5pm.

There will be changes to the drive-thru vaccination centre opening times this week:

  • Tuesday 31 May, 10am-6pm, Age 5+
  • Wednesday 1 June, 10am-6pm, Age 5+
  • Thursday 2 and Fri 3 June: No clinic.
  • Saturday 4 June, 10am-6pm, Age 5+
  • Sunday 5 June, 10am-6pm, Age 5+

From Monday 6 June, the drive-thru centre will then return to its usual opening days each week: Wednesday through to Sunday, 10am-6pm.

People can also book their vaccine at a wide range of locations through the National Booking Service, or by calling 119.
