PLEASE NOTE: This article was published in 2015. The process for booking appointments at the healthcare hubs has now changed. Please visit www.leicestercityccg.nhs.uk/healthcare-hubs for up to date information.

Four healthcare hubs that provide Leicester City patients with additional GP and nurse appointments during evenings, weekends and bank holidays, are now all open for business and are about to benefit from a city-wide promotional campaign to raise patient awareness.

Patients that are registered with any Leicester City GP practice can use any of the four hubs between 6:30pm and 10:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 10:00pm at weekends and on bank holidays. They can get an appointment with a GP or an advanced nurse practitioner by calling 0116 366 0560 or NHS 111, or they can just walk in to any of four hubs. It is the same number to call for all four hubs.

The healthcare hubs are located in four areas of the city:

Healthcare Hub Address
Willows Medical Centre 184 Coleman Road, Leicester, LE5 4LJ.
Westcotes Medical Practice Westcotes Health Centre, Fosse Road South, Leicester, LE3 0LP.
Brandon Street Surgery Belgrave Health Centre, 52 Brandon Street, Leicester, LE4 6AW.
Saffron Surgery 612 Saffron Lane, Leicester, LE2 6TD.

Leaflets explaining about the four hubs are being distributed through the letterboxes of all Leicester City residents. Patients will also be able to pick one up from their GP practice, local pharmacies, libraries and community centres. The promotional campaign also extends to advertising on local radio and advans that will be touring the city during November.

Dr Mohammed Roshan, the lead GP for the hub at the Willows Medical Centre said: “We are very excited with this new project which allows patients to see experienced GPs and advanced nurse practitioners. The service is open 7 days a week, at times when their own surgery may not be open for service, including late evenings, weekends and bank holidays. With 1740 appointments available across the four hubs, we are confident that this will lead to a significant advance in access to GP practices. “

The healthcare hubs have been made possible by a successful bid by three federations of GP practices in Leicester City from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund (PMCF). The hubs will be operating until 31st March 2016 to test this way of delivering care for patients. The learning from the project will be used to develop future services.

Patients can read more about the hubs by visiting www.leicestercityccg.nhs.uk/healthcare-hubs.
