Get vaxxed – stay on track at the King Power Stadium this weekend

10th November 2021 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

‘Get vaxxed – stay on track’ is the local NHS message to parents, young people, those who have not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19 and people who are due a vaccine or booster – as the King Power Stadium plays host to a series of vaccination clinics this weekend.

Although life has returned to almost normal for many, Covid is still about and the best way to stay protected against the virus is by getting vaccinated.

From this Friday (12 November), the Foxes home ground will be transformed into a Covid-vaccination clinic. Doses 1 and 2 will be available along with the booster jab. A 3rd primary dose will also be available, but people will need to bring proof of their eligibility for this dose.

On Friday the clinic will be open to people aged 16 and over and on Saturday and Sunday (13 and 14 November), the clinics will be open to anyone aged 12 and over. Opening times on all three days will be between 11am to 7pm.

Families and individuals can walk in without booking an appointment for doses 1 and 2 and the booster, but anyone wishing to attend at a specific time can book an appointment. Please note that dose 3 is available on a walk-in basis only and cannot be booked in advance.

Dr Caroline Trevithick, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Performance and Deputy Chief Executive of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: “We are delighted to be hosting vaccination clinics from the King Power Stadium for a third time.

“If you haven’t yet had your Covid vaccination, it’s not too late – please come forward as it’s the best way to protect yourself from becoming seriously ill with the virus and from spreading it to your near and dear ones.

“And if you are due your next dose or booster, it’s vital that you have it now for maximum protection. It will only take a few minutes but could save your life.

“Although many of us are enjoying going back to work, college or university, seeing our children go back to school and going out to see family and friends, Covid is very much still about.

“That’s why it’s really important that we all get vaxxed to stay on track with our lives and whatever’s important to us.”

Leicester City Football Club Ambassador, Alan Birchenall, added:”The vaccination clinics at King Power Stadium are a great opportunity to ensure you’re protected against COVID-19. Not only will the vaccine help to protect you, but also your loved ones and the people around you. Our lives have been restricted for so long, so the sooner we can get back to doing the things we love, the better.”

First or second doses will be available but there must be at least an eight-week gap between both doses. Young people aged 12-17 only need a single dose (dose 1).

People aged 50 and over, health and care workers or people aged 16 and over who have certain health conditions are all eligible for the COVID-19 booster vaccine, which helps people who have been double-jabbed retain their immunity. This can be given as long as it is six months or more since their second dose.

Third doses are ‘top-up’ doses for anyone who was severely immunosuppressed at the time of their first or second dose. People will be contacted if they are eligible and the third dose should be given no sooner than eight weeks after the second dose. Please bring proof of eligibility for the third dose, to show that this is now due.

The clinics will be located at turnstile W1 at King Power Stadium, with NHS marshals on hand across the three days to provide further support and information.
