More GP practices to begin Covid vaccinations

29th December 2020 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

Eligible patients registered with an additional three GP practices in Leicestershire will begin vaccinating patients from today with the first of two doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination.

The vaccinations will be administered by Cross Counties Healthcare Primary Care Network, a group of GP practices, consisting of Billesdon Surgery, The Croft Medical Centre and South Leicestershire Medical Group. The vaccinations will take place at Old School Surgery in Kibworth Beauchamp for patients of all practices in the Primary Care Network.

Nurses, paramedics, pharmacists and other NHS staff will work alongside GPs to vaccinate those aged 80 and over, as well as care home workers and practice staff.

The vaccine is typically delivered by a simple injection in the upper arm. Two doses of the vaccine are required, three weeks apart, to achieve protection against coronavirus. In advance of receiving their vaccine, patients can read more information in the leaflets available on the .gov.uk website.

Caroline Trevithick, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Performance for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland clinical commissioning groups said: “We now have 82 practices that have started their vaccinations, which has been a fantastic achievement over the last few weeks. We hope to be able to confirm details soon of when the remaining practices will begin. In the meantime, please continue to follow local Covid alert level restrictions and social distancing guidance while the vaccine is rolled out to all population groups.”

Dr Anuj Chahal, Clinical Director of Cross Counties Healthcare Primary Care Network said: “We look forward to welcoming patients from all three practices at Old School Surgery next week. We will be contacting patients by telephone to invite them to come for their vaccination. We know that our patients are very eager to get their vaccine but we ask that you do not contact the practice yourself to ask if for it. If we haven’t invited you this time, don’t worry. We will be in touch with you in the New Year”.
