Need immediate medical attention over Easter? Call 111.

15th April 2019 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

NHS organisations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are reminding patients that NHS 111 is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over the holiday period to offer help to anyone with an immediate medical need.

This year many GP surgeries across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland will close for four days from Good Friday (19 April) through Easter Monday (23 April), before re-opening on Tuesday 24 April.

Dr James Ogle, a GP in Leicestershire and clinical lead for West Leicestershire CCG said “NHS 111 is the best way to access care when it’s urgent, but not a 999 emergency, particularly when your GP is closed.

“They have trained call advisors, who will support you to access the right care for you. If you need to speak to a clinician over the phone then they will be able to connect you or arrange for them to call you back.  If you need to be seen in person they will direct you to the right care for you, whether it’s an appointment at a City healthcare hub, an urgent care centre, or, if you can’t travel then they can arrange a home visit.”

In Leicestershire County and Rutland, urgent care centres are open throughout the Easter period. Walk in services are available at Loughborough Urgent Care Centre, Melton Mowbray Urgent Care Centre, Oadby Walk In Centre, Market Harborough Urgent Care Centre, Oakham Urgent Care Centre, Lutterworth and Enderby Urgent Care Centre.

We also recommend the services of your local pharmacy for any minor health-related concerns. Most pharmacies will have private consultation rooms where they can advise you on self-care treatments and give you advice on your medication.

Please be aware that pharmacy opening times will also be affected by the Easter Holidays. There will be normal opening times on Saturday (20 April), but a reduced service on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
