New co-Chair invites members of the public to join their patient group to shape services of the future

A local organisation who plan and develop health services for patients in the community has today announced the appointment of Melton resident and former Chair of Leicester’s Clockwise Credit Union, John Wood, as co-Chair to the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Alliance Patient and Public Partnership Group (PPPG).

The LLR Alliance is a unique partnership of health organisations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. If a patient has treatment in a community hospital as an outpatient or day-case, this will be arranged by the LLR Alliance. The Alliance is designed to offer patients more choice about when and where they receive day-case and outpatient treatment and is helping to drive forward local plans to deliver more care in the community, rather than in the large city hospital sites.

The LLR Alliance is a partnership of East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), West Leicestershire CCG, Leicester City CCG, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and the LLR Provider Company Limited (a group of 90 Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland GP practices).

John Wood, alongside existing co-Chair, Eric Charlesworth will lead the PPPG forward over the next two years.

John Wood, co-Chair of the LLR Alliance PPPG said: “I am proud to have been appointed to the role of co-chair for the Alliance PPPG. We have a responsibility to local patients, carers and members of the public to monitor services provided and delivered by the Alliance, seeking to ensure they are of the standard we would want for our own families. We constantly aim to expand our group, always on the search for more patient partners.”

Anyone is welcome to join the PPPG. Patient partners are volunteers who provide a patient’s view on the design, planning, delivery and performance of NHS services. As a group they are actively involved in the development of NHS services representing the patient’s voice as decisions are taken.

The PPPG is by no means a replacement for consultation and engagement with patients but it enhances the number of ways in which the local NHS can listen to patients about what they really need.

There are currently nine members of the LLR Alliance PPPG. Each has a responsibility to give a voice to patients, carers and the public in times of service change and development. This is through engagement with as wide a range of contacts as possible, reflecting this through the provision of advice to the LLR Alliance boards about patients’ experience of the Alliance services and challenging the organisation on the quality of services, to ensure patients receive a high quality standard of care.

John Wood, co-Chair of the LLR Alliance PPG said: “Each member of the group is a patient; some have experience of being a carer and some members have previously sat on other representative bodies such as voluntary groups, trades unions and management boards. Most importantly, all of our members have first-hand experience of local NHS services which puts us in an ideal position to fulfil our roles.”

New Patient Partner volunteers are always welcome and further details can be found at http://llralliance.nhs.uk/about/public-and-patient-partnership-group and membership details can be found here http://llralliance.nhs.uk/about/public-and-patient-partnership-group/pppg-membership-pack
