Saffron Healthcare hub moving to new premises from 29th July 2019

25th July 2019 | By Liz Mattock | Posted in

From 29th July 2019, the Saffron Healthcare Hub will be seeing patients at a new location, less than half a mile closer to the city centre; in more modern, accessible premises.

The healthcare hubs are an integral part of the service provided by Leicester City GP practices to improve access to appointments. If patients need an appointment with their GP practice and their own practice does not have anything available, they could have an appointment at one of four healthcare hubs instead, if an appointment is suitable for the patient’s medical problem.

The Saffron Hub was previously located at 612 Saffron Lane and was no longer deemed to be suitable for the delivery of modern, high quality health services and there was no dedicated parking available. The hub will now be using premises owned by the GP practice Saffron Health, at 509 Saffron Lane.

There will be no change to the service patients receive from the Saffron Hub, the number of appointments or the opening times.

Professor Azhar Farooqi, a GP in Leicester City and Chair of Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We are delighted Saffron Health have agreed to host the healthcare hub in their upgraded premises, which are much more accessible and suitable for patients from across the city, and only a short distance away. We hope more patients will take advantage of appointments here when they are offered by practices and NHS111.”

Together the healthcare hubs offer 1600 convenient appointments each week, with a GP or prescribing nurse, on top of appointments provided by GP practices themselves. If an appointment is required, it can only be booked by a patient’s own GP practice, or NHS 111 when practices are closed.

Appointments are available seven days a week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. If patients are unwell and their practice is closed they should call NHS111 for advice.

Clinical commissioning groups are responsible for planning and buying most health services needed by the people who live and work in their area. This includes the care you receive from your GP practice, hospital care, urgent and emergency care, community health care, mental health and learning disability services and rehabilitation for people living in their areas. Under the Health and Social Care Act, every GP practice is a member of a CCG.

Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group became a statutory body in April 2013. Leicester City CCG represents 57 GP practices and serves a population of 395,000 patients who are registered with those practices.
